China is interested in direct current projects in Russia

The Chinese corporation China Energy International Group expressed its readiness to expand cooperation with Russian partners in the energy sector, including projects for the construction of new generation networks and direct current lines.

Among the key areas of cooperation is the development of ultra-high-voltage electric power transmission systems, both alternating and direct current, for the transportation of both traditional and «green» energy.

The modernization of existing thermal power plants, the construction of modern gas-fired power plants, including the possible supply of equipment, the development of design standards and the exchange of technological experience were also discussed. Additionally, the topic of upgrading coal-fired power plants and the development of renewable energy sources (RES) was touched upon.

According to the Ministry of Energy, DC line projects can potentially be implemented in southeastern Siberia, as well as in the Moscow region, where there is a shortage of generating capacity.
