A meeting of the leaders to break the deadlock is scheduled for the end of the year. Beijing insists on the complete removal of duties, easing of technological restrictions and lifting of sanctions against Chinese companies. The United States, in turn, is tightening the fight against transit shipments of Chinese goods through third countries: a single 40% duty has been introduced, but the mechanism for its application is still unclear. Another controversial topic is export controls on the supply of American chips needed by China for the development of AI. Washington fears that these technologies will strengthen China's military potential. China's dominance in the field of rare earth metals strengthens its position. In June, exports of these resources rose to the highest level since 2012, which, according to experts, has already helped ease restrictions on the supply of Nvidia H20 chips. Even if a deal is reached, the root causes of the conflict – China's industrial superpower and government subsidies – may remain unresolved, creating the risk of a protracted trade standoff.
