European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen stressed that the dialogue between Russia and the United States does not affect the EU's plans to stop importing Russian energy resources. Despite discussions about a possible resumption of Russian gas supplies, Europe intends to implement a strategy of completely abandoning Russian energy. Jorgensen noted that the EU has a clear roadmap for eliminating energy dependence, and any negotiations with external countries will not change this course. In addition, he linked this step with solidarity towards Ukraine. Recently, the European Commission presented a project to phase out Russian energy sources, including LNG, oil and nuclear fuel, which drew criticism from Hungary and Slovakia. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted that dependence on Russia is unacceptable for EU security: the share of Russian gas has already been reduced from 45% to 18%. However, a decrease in Russian gas imports has led to a sharp increase in energy prices, and European industrialists are concerned about these consequences. Despite efforts, the European Union has not yet managed to completely get rid of Russian fuel – in the first quarter of 2025, 16% of LNG in the EU came from Russia.
