Google, part of Alphabet Inc., plans to open its first data center in Japan in 2023. This was announced by the head of the company Sundar Pichai.

The data center will be opened as part of the company's infrastructure investment program in the country in the amount of $730 million in the period from 2022 to 2024. The center will be located in the small town of Inzai in Chiba Prefecture.

Alphabet already has several data centers in Asia, Singapore and Taiwan. Earlier, the company announced plans to spend $9.5 billion this year on the construction of new data centers and offices in the United States.

Google said the new data center will help people gain faster and more reliable access to the company's tools and services, support economic activity and jobs, and connect Japan to the rest of the global digital economy. Earlier this year, Google also announced the Topaz submarine cable project, which will connect Canada and Japan.

An Analysis Maison study on Google's investments in the country's infrastructure published last month notes that Japan's GDP could increase by $303 billion between 2022 and 2026.
