Trade turnover between Russia and Brazil increased significantly in December last year, reaching $1.6 billion, which is 1.8 times higher than previous figures. This growth was made possible by record supplies of Russian petroleum products to Brazil.

Data from the Brazilian statistical service show that in December last year Brazil imported goods from Russia worth $1.5 billion, which is the highest volume of purchases in the modern history of bilateral trade.

The largest part of imports were petroleum products, which amounted to 1.5 million tons worth $1.14 billion. Russia is now the largest supplier of petroleum products to Brazil, ahead of the United States (413.5 thousand tons of petroleum products) and the Netherlands (108.6 thousand tons). The top five also include Spain (100.2 thousand tons) and Oman (66.5 thousand tons).

Also in December, Brazil also imported fertilizers, iron, steel and uranium from Russia.

On the other hand, exports of goods from Brazil to Russia decreased by 17% and amounted to $63.6 million. The main exports were meat, coffee and peanuts.

Brazil's trade deficit with Russia has grown to the highest values for the entire period of bilateral trade: by the end of December, it amounted to $1.46 billion.
